When is the season?
February through May. Girls Soccer is a spring sport, with Tryouts typically starting the last Monday of February. Playoffs begin in early May for teams that qualify. However, the team will do preseason training activities during much of the rest of the year for interested players.
What does the season look like?
In season, there are typically two games per week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays (with some exceptions). The team will train on the other three days of the week. There are some Saturday morning sessions, especially during the first month of the season as the team builds fitness and learns tactics. Training sessions are usually 1hr and 45min long and are held after school at the LHS Turf Field. Games are typically at 4:30 (JV) and 6:30 (Varsity). Both teams play at the same location. Our away games are mostly North of Denver. Busses usually return to LHS around 9:00 pm depending on the distance.
Can I play another sport at LHS at the same time?
Yes, if the player and both coaches agree to an arrangement that works.
Where are home games?
Mountain View High School. Senior Night games are usually held at Ray Patterson Stadium.
Do I have to buy a uniform?
Jerseys and shorts are provided. You will have to buy two pairs of socks.
Are preseason and offseason activities mandatory?
No, but they are highly encouraged. They can be very valuable as skill and fitness-building activities, as well as a way to interact and bond with teammates before the season begins. Once the season begins, all team activities are mandatory unless otherwise stated.
How should I prepare for Tryouts?
Focus on Foot skills, First Touch, Field Awareness (Scanning) and Fitness. Ask the coaching staff if you need help!Do at least 20 minutes of technical work every day.Do cardiovascular fitness work 5-6 days a week. Follow our Preseason Fitness Program.
Are you a cut sport?
It depends. Participation in school athletics is very important and we want as many players as possible to join. Cutting players is the hardest part of any coach's job and we do not take it lightly. We have to balance allowing as many players as possible to participate with making sure those who do make the team get enough coaching and playing time to make it a beneficial and meaningful experience for them. We go into every season hoping not to cut anyone, and we understand sometimes rosters get too large and we have to make those tough decisions.
Does it cost money to play?
Yes. For LHS Students, there is a $175 activity fee. For non LHS students who play sports for our school, the fee is $225. Those are paid to the LHS bookkeeper. These fees pay for busses, field space, referees, etc.
Do you need team managers?
Yes! We would like 2 student managers per season if possible. The time commitments are the same for managers and players. Our managers will have a range of responsibilities including but not limited to setting up training/warm-up cones, setting up the Veo camera for training sessions and games, making sure equipment is prepared for training (balls pumped up, etc), tracking statistics during games, taking attendance for bus trips, joining drills if we need numbers, and making sure there is water available for players at all times. Managers earn Varsity letters for their contributions to a successful team!
